LumiDSL Trademark Usage Guidelines

Introduction

LumiDSL and Lumiere Graphics are trademarks owned by Pantopie. These guidelines explain how you may (and may not) use these trademarks.

Why trademark protection matters:

It ensures users know they're getting authentic LumiDSL
It prevents confusion about what is and isn't official
It protects the reputation and quality associated with LumiDSL
It allows us to maintain the LumiDSL brand and community

Protected Marks

The following are trademarks of Pantopie (collectively, the "Protected Marks"):

LumiDSL (word mark)
Lumiere Graphics (word mark)
The LumiDSL logo (if applicable)
Any visual design elements associated with LumiDSL

General Principles

✅ Permitted Uses

You MAY use the Protected Marks without permission in the following ways:

1. Factual References

Describe your actual use of LumiDSL in factual, non-misleading ways:

"This application uses LumiDSL"
"Built with LumiDSL"
"Supports LumiDSL files"
"Compatible with LumiDSL"

2. Educational and News Content

Use Protected Marks in:

Tutorial articles: "How to Get Started with LumiDSL"
Blog posts: "My Experience Using LumiDSL"
News articles: "LumiDSL Releases Version 2.0"
Academic papers and research
Conference presentations about LumiDSL

3. Community Discussion

Use Protected Marks in:

Forum discussions about LumiDSL
Social media posts sharing experiences
Stack Overflow questions and answers
GitHub issues and pull requests

4. Compatible Implementations

If you create software that implements the LumiDSL specification:

"A LumiDSL-compatible renderer"
"XYZ Tool: A LumiDSL implementation"
"Alternative implementation of LumiDSL"

❌ Prohibited Uses

You may NOT use the Protected Marks in the following ways:

1. As Your Product Name

Don't use "LumiDSL" as the name (or substantial part of the name) of your product, service, or company:

❌ "LumiDSL Pro"
❌ "LumiDSL Studio"
❌ "SuperLumiDSL"
❌ "LumiDSL Cloud Services"

Instead:

✅ "Phoenix Graphics (with LumiDSL support)"
✅ "VisualScript Editor for LumiDSL"

2. In Domain Names

Don't register domain names containing Protected Marks:

❌ lumidsl.com (reserved for official use)
❌ lumidsl-tools.com
❌ getlumidsl.io

Exception: Educational or community sites may be permitted with explicit written permission (contact hello@pantopie.studio).

2. Suggesting Official Endorsement

Don't imply that your product is officially endorsed, certified, or developed by Pantopie without permission:

❌ "Official LumiDSL Plugin"
❌ "Certified by LumiDSL"
❌ "The LumiDSL Foundation"

4. Modified Versions

Don't use "LumiDSL" as the name of modified or forked versions:

❌ "LumiDSL Enhanced Edition"
❌ "Community LumiDSL"

Instead:

✅ "Phoenix DSL (based on LumiDSL)"
✅ "ModernGL (a LumiDSL fork)"

5. Confusingly Similar Marks

Don't create or register trademarks that are confusingly similar:

❌ "LumiScript"
❌ "Lumi-DSL"
❌ "LumiereGL"

Specific Use Cases

1. Open Source Projects Using LumiDSL

Scenario: You're building an open-source tool that uses LumiDSL.

You CAN:

✅ "GraphicsEditor - A visual editor for LumiDSL"
✅ Include "Powered by LumiDSL" in your documentation
✅ State "This project uses LumiDSL by Pantopie"

You CANNOT:

❌ Name your project "LumiDSL Editor"
❌ Use the LumiDSL logo as your project logo
❌ Suggest your project is the official LumiDSL editor

2. Commercial Products Using LumiDSL (with Commercial License)

Scenario: You have a Commercial License and want to market your product.

You CAN:

✅ Use "Powered by LumiDSL" badge in marketing materials
✅ State "Includes LumiDSL support" in product descriptions
✅ Use the official LumiDSL logo in "Technologies We Use" sections
✅ Advertise: "Now with LumiDSL integration!"

You CANNOT:

❌ Name your product "LumiDSL Studio Pro"
❌ Use LumiDSL branding as your primary brand identity
❌ Imply that Pantopie endorses your product specifically

Required:

Attribution must be included (see Commercial License Agreement)

3. Alternative Implementations

Scenario: You're creating a new implementation of the LumiDSL specification.

You CAN:

✅ "RapidRender - A high-performance LumiDSL-compatible renderer"
✅ "This library implements the LumiDSL specification"
✅ State your implementation "conforms to LumiDSL spec version X.Y"

You CANNOT:

❌ Call your implementation "LumiDSL Turbo"
❌ Claim to be "the official LumiDSL implementation"
❌ Use the LumiDSL logo without modification

Best Practice:

Create your own distinct brand identity
Clearly state you're a compatible implementation
Link to the official LumiDSL specification

4. Educational Content

Scenario: You're writing a tutorial or course about LumiDSL.

You CAN:

✅ "Introduction to LumiDSL: A Complete Guide"
✅ "LumiDSL Tutorial for Beginners"
✅ Use screenshots and code examples
✅ Create YouTube videos: "Learning LumiDSL"

You CANNOT:

❌ Suggest your course is "Official LumiDSL Training"
❌ Use "LumiDSL" as your company or platform name
❌ Create a "LumiDSL Certification" program without permission

Best Practice:

Make it clear it's community-created content
Credit Pantopie as the creator of LumiDSL
Link to official documentation

5. Events and Meetups

Scenario: You want to organize a LumiDSL meetup or conference.

You CAN:

✅ "LumiDSL User Group Meetup"
✅ "LumiDSL Community Conference"
✅ Use "Unofficial" in the name: "Unofficial LumiDSL Summit"

You CANNOT:

❌ "Official LumiDSL Conference" (without permission)
❌ Suggest Pantopie is organizing or sponsoring the event (unless true)

Best Practice:

Contact hello@pantopie.studio to notify us about significant community events
We may be able to provide promotional support or materials

Using the "Powered by LumiDSL" Badge

Eligibility

You may use the "Powered by LumiDSL" badge if:

You have a Commercial License, OR
You're using LumiDSL under the Community License and your use is factually accurate

Badge Guidelines

Correct Usage:

Use the official badge artwork (provided by Corentin Flach)
Don't modify the badge colors, proportions, or text
Ensure the badge is clearly visible but not the most prominent branding
Link the badge to the official LumiDSL website: [YOUR WEBSITE]

Incorrect Usage:

❌ Don't make the badge larger than your own branding
❌ Don't alter the badge design
❌ Don't use the badge if you're not actually using LumiDSL
❌ Don't use the badge in a way that suggests official partnership without a Commercial License

Requesting Badge Assets

Commercial License holders can request official "Powered by LumiDSL" badge assets by emailing hello@pantopie.studio.

Logo Usage Guidelines

Official LumiDSL Logo

If we provide an official logo:

Permitted Uses:

In "Built with" or "Technologies" sections of your website
In documentation showing tool compatibility
In presentations or articles about LumiDSL

Requirements:

Maintain minimum clear space around the logo
Don't distort, rotate, or modify the logo
Use on contrasting backgrounds for visibility
Provide attribution when required

Attribution Requirements

When Attribution is Required

Attribution is required when:

You distribute software under the Community License
You use LumiDSL under a Commercial License (see agreement)
You create a LumiDSL-compatible implementation
You modify or fork LumiDSL

Minimum Required:

"This software uses LumiDSL, developed by Pantopie.
LumiDSL is a trademark of Pantopie."

Modified and Forked Versions

Naming Modified Versions

If you distribute a modified version of LumiDSL:

You MUST:

Choose a clearly different name
Include prominent notice that it's a modified version
State: "Based on LumiDSL by Pantopie"
Preserve original copyright notices

Examples:

✅ "RapidGL (based on LumiDSL)"
✅ "ModernRender - A LumiDSL fork"

NOT acceptable:

❌ "LumiDSL Community Edition"
❌ "LumiDSL++"

Trademark Enforcement

Reporting Violations

If you become aware of trademark misuse, please report it to:

Consequences of Violations

Violations of these guidelines may result in:

Formal request to cease use
Termination of software licenses (if applicable)

We prefer to resolve issues amicably. Most violations are unintentional, and we'll work with you to correct them.

When to Request Permission

Use "LumiDSL" in a domain name
Use "Official" or "Certified" in connection with LumiDSL
Create a LumiDSL certification program
Use the LumiDSL logo in ways not covered by these guidelines
Organize a large community event
Establish a partnership or integration

How to Request Permission

Your name and organization
Detailed description of intended use

How this benefits the LumiDSL community

Response Time: We aim to respond within 7 business days.

Changes to These Guidelines

These guidelines may be updated from time to time. We will:

Clearly mark the version and effective date
Provide reasonable notice of material changes
Grandfather existing compliant uses
