LumiDSL Release Notes

Changes that affect how you write, play and save LumiDSL scenes. Check compatibility before opening a scene in an older editor.

Layer masks and blending, file format 6

  • Use alpha or luminance masks, invert a mask, and combine layers with 19 blend modes. A mask affects earlier siblings in the same parent. See masks and layer blending.
  • Transparent colors keep their brightness when antialiasing is applied.
  • Opening an older file shows a notice because these changes can affect its appearance. Older editors cannot open files saved in format 6. Keep an original copy if you need to return to an older editor.

Rendering and animation fixes

  • Text keeps its smooth edges on cards turned under a 3D camera. Fonts with mirrored or rotated glyph components now draw those characters correctly.
  • Effects on groups under a 3D camera stay within their projected bounds. Dots, cells and blur radii use scene units at the group's depth. Existing scenes may need smaller values if they were tuned to the previous appearance. See camera effects.
  • Effect color parameters accept hex colors. Color tuples remain linear RGB; use a hex color to match a display color. See effect colors.
  • In 2D scenes, blur softens artwork that crosses the frame edge.
  • Film grain preserves the underlying color more closely. Retune intensity if a scene relied on the previous brightness or saturation shift.
  • Repeated ellipses retain their own sizes. Copy colors update when their defines change, and fill modifiers blend over animated text colors in order.
  • Visibility keys and expressions switch at their exact scene time, including when the artwork uses a lower frame rate.
  • Text modifier animations and stagger contribute to scene duration. Duplicating a blueprint preserves its text modifiers, keyframes and falloff.

These fixes do not change stored syntax or the file-format version.

Larger repeated patterns

Fixed-count loops support up to 10,000 copies per loop and 20,000 across the scene. Repeated text supports up to 16,384 shaped glyphs per scene. See repetition limits.

3D cameras, file format 5

Create perspective or orthographic cameras, parent them into rigs, animate lenses, and target artwork or individual glyphs. Switch views with active or blend between camera poses. See cameras.

Files from format 4 retain their original view when opened. Editors that only support format 4 cannot open files saved in format 5.

Stroke trim, repetition and animation paths

  • Reveal strokes with trimStart and trimEnd, with independent fill and stroke caps. See draw strokes for supported shapes and SVGs.
  • Repeat native vector shapes with fixed-count loops and ordered Grid, Circle, Scatter, Transform and Noise modifiers. Select copies, animate modifier strength, and stagger their motion. See repetition.
  • Choose interpolation: timing or interpolation: spatial for position animations. Omitting it keeps the existing path behavior. Other properties use timing interpolation. See animations.
  • Use step(edge, x) for timed gates and the expo and quint easing presets for motion.
  • Animation keyframes resolve constant defines and tuple components. Supported easing options and exact key times survive saving and reopening.

These additions do not change the file-format version. Previously saved fixed-count loops can now become visible; older editors may discard modifiers when saving. Keep an original copy when moving between editor versions.
